NAML-National Association of Marine Laboratories is an amalgamation of marine laboratories. It was established in October 1989 by the steering committee of SAML (Southern Association of Marine Laboratories) and marine lab directors attending the annual ERF meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Dr. Harlyn Halvorson of Massachusetts Marine Biological Laboratory, USA, became the first president of the National Association of Marine Laboratories.
The mission of this association is to stimulate research and promote education in the marine sciences. It seeks to provide a good forum for the resolution of problems that are common to non-profit marine laboratories in the United States. The association encourages the conservation and wise use of marine and coastal resources.
