National Association of Nutrition Professionals

National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) was originally founded in 1985 as the Society of Certified Nutritionists, and relies on financial support through professional and student membership dues, and by sponsorships from organizations dedicated to the principles of holistic health and education. The NANP is the only professional business league, wholly dedicated to furthering the cause, education and standards of the holistic nutrition industry. NANP have developed two rigorous sets of Educational Standards for both Nutrition Consultants and Natural Chefs. Every school that appears on NANP Recommended Educational Programs page has applied for and participated in NANP thorough review process. Only those schools/programs that pass NANP review make the cut. Prospective students who are looking for a credible program in holistic nutrition and natural cooking can be confident in choosing any of the schools listed on NANP site, because NANP has done the work to ensure these programs offer a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum. Graduates of these programs qualify for Professional Membership in the NANP (and the many benefits NANP offer). Graduates of NANP recommended holistic nutrition education programs are also able to apply to sit for NANP Board Exam in Holistic Nutrition (Not applicable to Natural Chefs). Schools that offer programs in either holistic nutrition or natural cooking are welcome to apply by visiting NANP Educational Institutions page and selecting the appropriate program review application.

NANP mission is to unify nutrition professionals, educate and serve the members and protect the holistic nutrition professional's right to practice. NANP aim to accomplish this by building integrity and credibility through a national certification process based on high educational standards and a rigorous code of ethics.

Scope of Practice:

• A Nutrition Professional advises individuals, families and groups on how to improve diet, lifestyle and attitude to prevent disease and promote health. They may work with a licensed health provider to help individuals with previously diagnosed illnesses identify biochemical imbalances and toxicities that contribute to poor health. Their advice and support is founded on evidence-based and holistic principles.
• A Natural Chef teaches clients and groups to eat for health, and provides healthy meals for them.
• A licensed Health Provider (MD, ND, DO, DC, RN, etc.) may work with a Nutrition Professional to educate patients on the benefits of whole foods, lifestyle improvements and appropriate supplementation relative to their health issue, or provide these services themselves.
