National Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (NAPM) is a voluntary, nonprofit organization consisting of pharmaceutical companies that educate health professionals and consumers about the benefits of generic medicines. The NAPM has a diverse membership comprising of 18 companies. The members of the association include Alliance Pharmaceuticals, Biovac, Cipla-Medpro, and Ranbaxy. NAPM was founded in 1977 and is based in Houghton, South Africa. As per the transaction announced on 01/29/2001 National Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers is a subsidiary of Generic Pharmaceutical Association.
Its functions include ensuring that the sector plays a constructive role in SA's economic growth, development and transformation and creates an environment in which the sector can thrive, expand, be competitive and enhance access of medicines to all of our country's citizens.
NAPM supports Government’s objectives of
NAPM supports Government’s initiative of Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative SA (ASGISA) and in particular shared growth to address the twin challenges of unemployment and poverty alleviation and the economic growth rate required to meet these two challenges. NAPM is affiliated with IGPA, SAGMA, BMF, and NEPAD.
Mission and Vision
We aim to champion affordable and accessible healthcare by promoting generics and supporting the development of the South African pharmaceutical manufacturing industry as a national asset. We also aim to improve efficiency of the regulatory system which will in turn help speed up the registration of drugs.
