North Carolina Soaring Association

The North Carolina Soaring Association was incorporated on 1980 in North Carolina State University Soaring. In 1985 the club changed its name from North Carolina State University Soaring Club to North Carolina Soaring Association and ended its links to the University. Since 1986 it is located at Harnett County Municipal Airport. It has currently more than 50 club members. They fly every weekend of the year, weather authorizing. In Harnett Regional Jetport FBO club meetings are held in the 2nd Saturday of every odd month and on every 4th Saturday of month Work parties are held. Club members should also pay for tow plane and glider fees during instruction and detailed Instruction is provided to club members who are FAA Certified Flight Instructors. The 320km longest local cross country flight was made by a club member. A highest altitude of 8,000 feet (2,600 meters) was attained and the longest duration of flight was slightly over 6 hours! The North Carolina Soaring Association (NCSA) is dedicated to promoting Soaring in North Carolina. The North Carolina Soaring Association currently operates from Crooked Creek (7NC5) airport which is located just the south of Bunn NC. The NCSF sponsors students in their quest to obtain their glider license.
