Professional Division of the Australian Petroleum Exploration Association was started from the petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (APPEA now APEA) and was established by Earl Abbott in 1967. Earl was the principal Federal President (1968-69) and Dick Dumbrell was the inaugural president of the NSW Branch, the primary branch shaped. No different officers were named to the NSW Branch. There was no constitution, to be sure its definition turned into Dick's real assignment the next year (1969-70) when he assumed control from Earl Abbott as Federal President.
The South Australian and Tasmania /Victoria Branches were framed in 1969 and the Western Australian Branch a year later. The earlier presence of the Queensland Petroleum Exploration Society (QUPEX) postponed the foundation of the APEA for a few years and at last PESA's fore-runner was at first acknowledged as a subunit inside QUPEX. The most youthful branch, the ACT, was framed just in the 1990's already having been a piece of the NSW/ACT branch.
As APEA's base camp were in Sydney, with Ken Horler as the association's Executive Director, Dick utilized Ken and his staff to cultivate enrollment, and to gather participation records.
