SAEM found in 1989 from amalgamation of the University Society for Emergency Medicine (UAEM) and the Society of Emergency Medicine (STEM). For over 20 years, STEM and UAEM helped promote and develop the specialty in emergency medicine, particularly by maintain education and investigation in this relvent field. at present SAEM continues this important work, and in 2014 celebrates its 25th year as organization. Academic Emergency Medicine Society is dedicated to the improvement of care of the acutely ill and injured patient by improving research and education. To achieve this mission, SAEM pramotes health policy through forums, publications, interorganizational collaboration, policy development, and consultation services for physicians and researchers. SAEM represents excellence and leadership in academic emergency medicine, and medicen values include idealism and quality in all endeavors, nurturing and camaraderie and diversity among members, as well as creative and symbiotic communications with other organizations.
SAEM membership includes a diffrent types of individuals in the field of emergency medicine. Individuals in feild of advanced degrees, such as B Pharma or equivalent, who have a university appointment, and who are directly involved in emergency medicine education or research are eligible for membership at the "Major" level. Many other health professionals and students in the health care field are eligible for associate membership.
