Society for Computer Applications in Radiology

Society for Computer Applications in Radiology was established in 1980 which is now the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM). It is a trusted resource for imaging professionals who are interested in the use of current and future technologies for information interpretation and image and management. It is previously started as The Radiology Information System Consortium (RISC) which was formed in 1980 with the purpose of developing a radiology information system making available to members. Then in 1989, the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology was founded as an organization under the RISC banner. In 1990, SCAR provided a system to include individual members, and then RISC's biannual computer applications meeting was transferred to SCAR. In 1996, both RISC and SCAR were merged as SCAR. In 2005, with a new vision for the future, SCAR celebrated its Silver jubilee. Its tagline (Innovating Imaging Informatics) emphasizes the SCAR’s commitment to lead the medical imaging community in the use and innovation of cutting-edge imaging technology. In 2006, the Society again named as the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) to better resonate the broadened role of imaging across the medical sector, to better describe the diversity of its department, to expand research activities into the entire field of imaging informatics, to include the imaging sciences, and to grasp the dynamic changes in the healthcare environment.
