The Society was enlisted on April 25, 2007 as an altruistic culture under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955 with a fundamental target to coordinate Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine to upgrade the human services framework and to unite the interdisciplinary researchers for enhancing the related R&D in India. Dr. Chandra P Sharma went to the Executive Council meeting of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) at the Regenerate 2006, in the World Congress on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburg on April 26, 2006. Dr. Sharma was urged to start the Society in India. He spoke with numerous researchers and in light of the ideal reactions got, the Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (India) was constituted. Initially meeting of the Society was sorted out at IIT Madras on December 13, 2007 with an inaugural location of Prof. DF Williams, Editor-in-Chief, Biomaterials.
