Society of Economic Geologists

The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) was established on December 28, 1920, during the organizing meeting of 60 eminent professionals. It is started from a 1919 gathering of a group of Geological Society of America (GSA) members where the members were especially interested in economic geology. SEG is a scientific organization which promotes the study of geology as that is related to mineral, mining, exploration, mineral extraction and mineral resource classification. It serves 7,000+ members across the globe that is committed to discovery of mineral resources through research courses publications and field trips and advancing the science. The main objectives of the Society are to develop the science of geology through the scientific study of mineral resources and mineral deposits and the application to mineral extraction, mineral resource appraisal, exploration and mining. To disseminate basic and applied scientific information rising from investigations of mineral resources and mineral deposits through SEG, publications, symposia, meetings, conferences, short courses, lecture series, workshops and field trips. To advance the status of the profession of economic geology, and to maintain a high qualified and ethical standard among the members of the society, SEG membership has many privileges that include SEG Membership Directory, Reduced prices for the society publications, and reduced registration prices for the scientific meetings, Contribution in an international society concentrating on economic geology, extended professional contacts among the government agencies, private sector and academia and Quarterly SEG Newsletter that contains timely news of the society and technical articles. The policies of the society are articulated by the Executive Committee and a Council, with execution by an appointed Executive Director. The Council Members would be the President, Past President, President-Elect, and Vice President for Regional Affairs, for Student Affairs, Treasurer, the Chair of the Publications Board, nine Councillors, the President of the Society of EGF, and the Executive Director, as an ex officio non-voting member of the Council.
