The requirement for a Society for natural chemists from all over South Africa was perceived in the late 1960's. This need discovered its first clear expression when countless met in Pretoria, together with scientific experts and restorative researchers, for a Symposium on the Chemistry and Biology of Macromolecules amid April 1970. At this meeting the representatives communicated verging on consistent backing for the arrangement of a Biochemical Society in South Africa.
