Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine

Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine was established with the aim of patient safety and quality care. Patient safety is a major key aspect of care and quality, it has taken on major importance in recent decades for both, the patients and their families, who want to feel safe, secure and confident about the health care services being provided, as well as for health care management services and healthcare professionals, who want to provide safe, effective and efficient health care and nursing services. Unwanted side effects of healthcare are, a cause of high morbidity and mortality in all the developed health care systems. Which is chiefly due to the growing complexity of handling patients, owing to the interaction of organizational factors and some of the personal factors on the part of healthcare professionals and specific disease-related factors. However, possible harm that patients may suffer in the healthcare environment and the cost of this possible harm to the healthcare systems is such that, in recent time, the leading healthcare organizations such as the World Health Organization, along with the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the Council of Europe Health Committee and many other national and world-wide organizations and agencies have developed strategies for plans, actions and legislative measures to control the possible avoidable adverse events in clinical practice. In this context, the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services & Equality, with its duties and responsibility for improvement of quality of the health and patient safety system overall, as founded in the National Health System Quality and Cohesion Act 16/2003, has put the patient safety at the centre point of its health policies. So Patient safety has become one of the key aspects of quality enhancement, since 2005 in coordination with the Spanish regions. On the one hand it is aimed at all those who want to know more about the diseases that affect them, their families or friends. But the guide is also addressed to all physicians who wish to complete the information provided in consultation with their patients. Therefore, it is a work that combines scientific rigor and independence required any medical professional with clarity and conciseness necessary for the information provided is understood by anyone who has nothing to do with medicine. In short, this society aims to be a means of fostering communication between doctor and patient. As can be seen, in each of the leaves are collected some essential data that all patients or their relatives should know about each of the selected diseases and precise to act indications are also included, as well as guidance on when to consult and ask for help. This is to get each person to act with the best information possible and with the confidence of having the same data that could provide your doctor, to provide guidance on the steps to take to solve the problems of ill found.
