The Solar Energy Society was formed in 1954 as a worldwide non-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of the utilisation of solar energy. They celebrate 30 years since the founding of the Society in 1974 It is a forum for all those interested in the advancement of the perfect use of the sun's energy. It has its headquarters in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Members of the society are worn from industry, architectural and engineering practices, government, academic institutions, as well as the general public. The main aims of this society to bring recent developments in solar energy, research and applications, to the attention of decision-makers and the general public, in order to increase the understanding and use of this non-polluting resource in everyday life. The Solar Energy Society promotes research, development and the use of techniques, which are directly or indirectly fuelled by the sun and which reduce the consequences of energy use. These technologies can provide sustainable solutions for the supply of energy in both developing countries and industrialised. In spite of a historic focus on direct solar energy, The Solar Energy Society today is involved in all renewable energy fields. Academic qualifications are not essential for membership. During the past 30 years, solar energy research and application has come a long way. They are proud to have played an important part in this society. Our membership has been supportive and active throughout. This Society has close links with other renewable energy organisations and government authority and is thus able to promote solar energy in all strands. The Society has organised over 60-61 national and international conferences on selected professional topics.
