With 77 scientists – including doctors, academics, manufacturers and entrepreneurs – formed the Chemical Society of London. A not-for-profit company with a heritage that spans 175 years, we have an ambitious international vision for the future. Around the globe, we invest in educating future generations of scientists. We are the world’s advance chemistry community and our aim is to advance excellence in the chemical sciences. Seven years later Queen Victoria assumed a Royal Charter to the Society, approving its purpose of "the general advancement of Chemical Science". With over 50,000 associates and the universal publishing and knowledge business we are the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists, supporting and picturing our members and bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world. After 175 years our aim is just as relevant and valid our work today still fulfills the roles initiated by all four long-established carcass. But we seek that mission on a scale the first 77 members would find unthinkable. We now have over 50,000 associates around the world, an internationally-renowned not-for-profit publishing and knowledge business, and a prominence as an influential unbeaten for the chemical sciences. Our global community now term hundreds of thousands of scientists, librarians, teachers, students, learner and people who love chemistry. Joining forces with leading companies and institutions is necessary if we are to shape the future of the chemical sciences around the world. It is important that we clearly determine how we advance excellence in the chemical sciences–whether it’s reporting on how we are achieving our design to the Charity Commission, clarifying what that strategy is to potential partners, or celebrating with our associates the great successes we have shared. In a complex and changing world, chemistry and the chemical sciences are essential. They are vital in our daily lives and will be vital in helping the world respond to some of its biggest challenges.
