Common manifestations include erythema, scaling, vesicles, itching, and lichenification where there is chronic inflammation. Each type of dermatitis has distinct signs and symptoms, although in practice it may be difficult to differentiate between them and also between other inflammatory skin conditions. The goals of treatment are to reduce symptoms (pruritus and dermatitis), prevent exacerbations, and minimize therapeutic risks.
