"Site matching of wind turbine generator is investigated based on appropriate selection of statistical model. In recent years, Weibull distribution model has been commonly used, accepted and recommended model to express wind speed frequency distribution. In this study, wind speed frequency distributions are modeled using Weibull parameters which were estimated from newly suggested and simple formulation method known as power density method. Wind speed data of an existing wind power station, located at Hiriyur, Karnataka, India, is used for computational purpose. The results of the study indicate that the power density method is an adequate method to estimate the Weibull parameters for site matching of wind turbine generators more accurately, if mean wind speed is known. In this study, various commercially available wind turbine generators are used for site matching. The power density method of estimating the Weibull parameters describe in this paper is also useful for planning of wind power stations as it can be applied for accurate assessment of wind power potential at a site."
