Study of gene-expression signature of inflammatory diseases provides evidence of novel immune markers in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis, sarcoidosis and ocular inflammation. Most striking, is the overexpression of transcripts for proteins which are involved in host responses to microorganisms. Comparing the key pathogeneic devices of S.flexneri, S. Typhi and mycobacterial species, we demonstrate a gene expression signature which demonstrates host involvement in cell invasion, hijacking of cell machinery by microorganisms and the innate immune response in AS, sarcoidosis and uveitis.
