The extremely small size of nanomaterials also means they will gain entry into cells far more readily than larger sized particles. How these nanoparticles behave inside the body is one concern of the new science of nanotoxicology.

Nanomedicines and Nanotoxicity are two sides of an equivalent coin. Nanotoxicology is defined because the study of the interactions of nanostructures with the biological system of person. Nanotoxicity occurs when biological system induces toxic biological responses thanks to the interaction with the properties of nanostructures either physical properties, chemical properties or both. Nanostructures include Nanoparticles, Nanotubes, Nano-metals, Nanowire, Nanoballs and Nanocapsules etc. As we all know the tiny size of nanostructures allow them to enter into a specific tissue, cell, organelle and biomolecular structures effectively. The lung is that the most vital target of nanomaterials but the particle size of the nanostructure is analogous to several biological molecules like proteins and antibodies; therefore, it's possible that these nanostructures enter into the vital biological system and cause damage to human health which results in Nanotoxicity.

The number of commercially available nanomaterials is rapidly growing. Thus, one aspect of nanotoxicology is that the unintended exposure to nanomaterials. Pharmaceutical nanoproducts are introduced for diagnostics, drug delivery or cancer treatment, and scientists within the field of toxicology are expected to spot and stop side effects arising from these uses. With emerging advancement within the Nano based drug delivery system, increasing incidence of Nanotoxicity also observed.

To provide our readers with a summary of the newest topics within the field of nanotoxicology, we summarize the key messages of the recent special issue. This Issue invites manuscripts starting from understanding dynamic behaviors of particles in aqueous environment, cellular toxicity, whole animal toxicity, and neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, genotoxicity, and population scale effects. Manuscripts that outline specific biological responses at the organismal, gene expression, proteomic, and genetic levels are also invited.
