Special Issue: Human Computer Interaction

The ubiquitous presence of computers and computational technologies has made Human-computer interaction inevitable.  The omnipotent and the omnipresent computational technologies are being applied for variety of activities ranging from health, education, banking, trade, commerce, knowledge sharing and the entertainment.  Human-computer interaction as a discipline thus, is concerned with the engineering and design methods, evaluation and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use.

An important facet of HCI is securing of user satisfaction (or End User Computing Satisfaction). Human-computer interaction thus consists of studies on human and the machine in communication. It draws knowledge on both the machine and the human side. On the machine side, techniques in computer graphics, operating systems, programming languages, and development environments are relevant. On the human side, communication theory, graphic and industrial design disciplines, linguistics, social sciences, cognitive psychology, social psychology, and human factors such as computer user’s satisfaction are relevant.

The multidisciplinary nature of HCI, demands contributions from people with a variety of backgrounds to promote a clear understanding about the key areas involved in the human-Machine communication and interaction. . HCI is synonymously mentioned as human–machine interaction (HMI), man-machine interaction (MMI) or computer-human interaction (CHI). The flow of information between the human and computer is defined as the loop of interaction. Some of the key aspects of Human Computer Interaction research include: Visual Based human computer interaction, audio based interaction, task environment, machine environment, Areas of the interface, Input flow, Output, Feedback, and Fit. Not limited to the areas mentioned above, the Special Issue on Human-Computer Communication
