Symptoms are swelling neck, breathing difficulty, steady wheezing & hacking voice. Treatment includes Surgery to remove the part of the thyroid gland, radioactive iodine to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue. TSH suppression therapy prevents any remaining cancer cells.
Ongoing Research is being done at Thyroid Cancer Centers. Around 35,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Switzerland each year, with 16,000 dying from it. Rates of thyroid cancer increased from15-24%. The risk of developing thyroid cancer before the age of 70 is 0.2% in men and 0.6% in women. However, half the cases occur before age 50 (46% for men and 49% for women).
