Translational research is the science that aims at making scientific discoveries available for practical application, especially in relation to life sciences, medicine and engineering. Within the scope of the journal, translational research encompasses medical genetics, oncology and cardiology, but also involves other relevant areas of medicine. For example, given that genes exist in every form of life, the ongoing research on hereditary diseases can be investigated in all living organisms, including microorganisms, plants, animals and humans. The fact that living organisms inherit qualities from their ancestors has been exploited since ancient times to enhance the yield from plants and animals through specific breeding. The current science of genetics started with Gregor Mendel. It intends increase our understanding of research findings regarding new or improved strategies to sustainably enhance our knowledge on fundamental, preclinical, clinical, epidemiologic and healthcare research.

The ability to more accurately model drug toxicity responses present across human populations than genetically defined mouse populations afford. Identification of inbred mouse strains that exhibit the adverse drug response of interest provides reproducible animal models for investigation of underlying molecular mechanisms and to screen next in class candidates. Phenotypic findings in combination with pharmacogenomics can be used to identify variation in specific genes and pathways associated with susceptibility, further informing mechanisms.
Importantly, risk factors identified in this way generate hypotheses that can be tested in DNA obtained from patients who have experienced the toxicity.

Development of translational research in the health and care of patients with congenital disease, we recently launched an innovative pediatric cardiovascular translation. This is to create a critical mass of collaborative research across 3 interacting consortia. The Cardiovascular Development Consortium will link research teams using complementary animal models to drill deeply into the details of the transcriptional regulatory networks that govern cardiac development. Investigators from 5 sites in the Pediatric Cardiac Genomics Consortium will recruit children into a common protocol to speed the discovery of causative genes and to evaluate the effects of genetic variation on short and long term outcomes in congenital heart disease patients.
This consortium will assemble multiple independent research projects, each with a multidisciplinary team of principal investigators, core research support facilities, and skills development components to establish synergistic virtual hubs focused on progenitor cell biology. The consortium will complement the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network, which was established to promote and accelerate clinical research in the evaluation of novel cell therapy treatment strategies for individuals with cardiovascular disease.

A Translational research for cancer is a strange development of cells (typically inferred from a solitary unusual cell). The cells have lost ordinary control systems and in this way can grow consistently, attack adjoining tissues, relocate to inaccessible parts of the body and advertise the development of fresh recruits vessels from which the cells determine supplements. Cancerous (threatening) cells can create from any tissue inside the body. As cancerous cells develop and duplicate, they structure a mass of cancerous tissue called a tumor that attacks and wrecks typical neighboring tissues. The term tumor alludes to a strange development or mass. Tumors could be cancerous or noncancerous. Cancerous cells from the essential (starting) site can spread all through the body. Discovery and research are never ending process man always tries to find something new for his advancement. Journals are the means of disseminating research findings.

Regenerative medicine is area of medicine with the potential to fully heal damaged tissues and organs, offering solutions and hope for people who have conditions that today are beyond repair. Regenerative Medicine is a branch of translational research in Tissue Engineering and Molecular Biology which deals with the process of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function.
Regenerative medicine is a very broad, new approach to medicine which uses the advances in stem cell technology, primarily, to advance clinical care. And what that really converts into is that instead of treating chronic diseases with drugs that have a short-term effect, and that need to be continued long term as a consequence, we can think in terms of regenerative medicine of solutions to problems.

It is a dominant autosomal genetic disorder caused by germ line mutations in mismatch repair genes. Human mismatch repair genes play a crucial role in genetic stability of DNA, the inactivation of which results in an increased rate of mutation and often a loss of mismatch repair function. Recent studies have shown that certain mismatch repair genes are involved in the regulation of key cellular processes including apoptosis. Thus, differential expression of mismatch repair genes particularly the contributions of MLH1 and MSH2 play important roles in therapeutic resistance to certain cytotoxic drugs such as cisplatin that is used normally as chemoprevention. Molecular Targeted Therapies uses drugs to target specific molecules (for example, proteins) on the surface of or inside harmful cells. These molecules help send signals that tell cells to grow or divide. By targeting these molecules, the drugs stop the growth and spread of harmful cells while limiting harm to normal cells. Targeted therapies use different types of drugs, and each drug works differently.
Researchers are studying different targeted therapies in animals (preclinical testing) and in humans (clinical trials). However, few targeted therapies have been approved for treatment. Targeted therapies may eventually prove to be more effective and less harmful than current treatments.

Biomedical research is the broad area of science that involves the investigation of the biological process and the causes of disease through careful experimentation, observation, laboratory work, analysis and testing. Scientists expand this knowledge base to discover ways to prevent ill-health, and to develop beneficial products, medications and procedures to treat and cure diseases and conditions that cause illness and death in us, our families and friends, our pets, farm animals and wildlife. Biomedical research requires the input and participation of many individuals from both the life and physical sciences, with many different backgrounds and skills.
Such a research team might include medical doctors, veterinarians, computer scientists, engineers, technicians, researchers and a variety of scientists from the different fields of the life sciences. It deals with beliefs or theories which can be proven or disproven through observations and experimentation. Before humans can be asked to participate in testing, researchers must first use animals whose living systems best represent that of humans. Almost every major medical advance in this century has been dependent on animal research.

Genotyping is the process of determining differences in the genetic make-up (genotype) of an individual by examining the individual's DNA sequence using biological assays and comparing it to another individual's sequence or a reference sequence. It reveals the alleles an individual has inherited from their parents.
Traditionally genotyping is the use of DNA sequences to define biological populations by use of molecular tools. It does not usually involve defining the genes of an individual.

Evidence-based practice has gained momentum in nursing, and definitions vary widely. Research findings, knowledge from basic science, clinical knowledge, and expert opinion are all considered "evidence"; however, practices based on research findings are more likely to result in the desired patient outcomes across various settings and geographic locations. The impetus for evidence-based practice comes from payor and healthcare facility pressures for cost containment, greater availability of information, and greater consumer savvy about treatment and care options. Evidence-based practice demands changes in education of students, more practice-relevant research, and closer working relationships between clinicians and researchers.
Evidence-based practice also provides opportunities for nursing care to be more individualized, more effective, streamlined, and dynamic and to maximize effects of clinical judgment. When evidence is used to define best practices rather than to support existing practices, nursing care keeps pace with the latest technological advances and takes advantage of new knowledge developments.

Evidence-based surgery is an exciting project is underway that serves SOURCE’s goals to increase awareness of the importance of evidence-based surgery among surgeons, and to increase the dissemination of surgical outcomes research findings. This is the evidence-based series of surgery. Early attempts to scientifically measure and improve surgical quality, such as Codman's “end result idea”2 in the early 1900s that sought to collect and analyze surgical outcomes, met intense resistance.
Fortunately, evidence-based medicine in surgery has now been thoroughly accepted; sophisticated researchers are applying a variety of study designs and methodological techniques to answer an expansive number of important clinical questions. Nonetheless, despite the diversity of high-quality research being performed, many continue to contend that the randomized controlled trial is the only valid source of evidence, whereas observational research is assumed to be only preliminary work. The need and legitimacy of both experimental and observational studies deserve to be highlighted.

Evidence based policy is a discourse or set of methods which informs the policy process, rather than aiming to directly affect the eventual goals of the policy. It advocates a more rational, rigorous and systematic approach. The pursuit of Evidence based policy is based on the premise that policy decisions should be better informed by available evidence and should include rational analysis. This is because policy which is based on systematic evidence is seen to produce better outcomes. The approach has also come to incorporate evidence-based practices.
There is certainly a sense in which these are re-runs of old debates but, equally, there is something new in the air which gives both a fresh urgency and a new twist to the issues around evidence-based policy. To my mind the key factor is the shift in the nature of politics; the retreat from ideology, the dissolution of class-based party politics, the empowerment of consumers. The new commitment to evidence-based policy cannot be interpreted as the long-awaited triumph of social science, at last given the recognition it deserves. It is more demand than supply-driven. Yet it does provide an astonishing new opportunity for 10 researchers in material, intellectual and political terms. Let us hope we are up to it. But let us remain modest in our claims to improve the conduct of public affairs.
