Nasal polyps (NP) are common benign degeneration of nasal sinus mucosa which are mostly associated with chronic conditions such as allergy, infection, asthma and aspirin sensitivity. The population prevalence is reported as 2-4%, with no racial predilection.The male to female ratio has been reported at approximately 2:1. Topical nasal steroid administration for nasal polyps, either as the primary treatment or as a continual secondary treatment immediately following oral steroids or surgery.
Although much work has been done on chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps there are many questions still unanswered. There is an urgent need for randomized placebo controlled trials to study the effect of antibiotics in chronic rhinosinusitis and exacerbations of chronic rhinosinusitis.
