Symptoms are swelling neck, breathing difficulty, steady wheezing & hacking voice. Treatment includes Surgery to remove the part of the thyroid gland, radioactive iodine to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue. TSH suppression therapy prevents any remaining cancer cells.
Ongoing Research is being done at Thyroid Cancer Centers. Almost half of all cases of thyroid cancer in the UK are diagnosed in people aged under 50, with the under-50s accounting for a higher proportion of female cases (52%) than male cases (40%). Around 230 women and 140 men died from thyroid cancer.
