    Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis which usually attack the lungs, but can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain.

    The recommended treatment of new-onset pulmonary tuberculosis is six months of a combination of antibiotics containing rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol for the first two months, and only rifampicin and isoniazid for the last four months A number of medications are being studied for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
    The safety and effectiveness of these new agents are still uncertain since they are result of limited studies.
