On 1 October 2007, the University Institutes of Forensic Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva and the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of Lausanne merged to form the University Center for Forensic Medicine (CURML). In January 2015, the Lausanne site was relocated to a new location at Chalet-à-Gobet. On January 1, 2016, Dr. Silke Grabherr succeeded Prof Patrice Mangin as Director of CURML Lausanne-Geneva. Dr. S. Grabherr has also been appointed Regular Professor of Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of Lausanne and at the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva. The teacher. P. Mangin retired after leading the CURML from 1996 to the end of 2015.
Located mainly at the two university hospital sites in Lausanne and Geneva, the center employs approximately 160 people and operates in nine specialized units: Forensic medicine, Forensic imagery and anthropology, Medicine and traffic psychology, The medicine of violence, Legal psychiatry, Medical law and forensic medicine, Forensic genetics, Forensic toxicology and chemistry, The Swiss doping analysis laboratory.
The CURML regularly organizes continuing education seminars, within the framework of the university hospitals of Lausanne and Geneva, and the corresponding faculties of biology and medicine. The subjects covered are very varied and affect the different disciplines related to Forensic Medicine:
1. Forensic science: anatomical pathology, clinical medicine, genetics, toxicology and forensic chemistry, psychopharmacology, behavioral science, entomology, anthropology, imaging, doping, traffic medicine, violence medicine, legal psychiatry, disaster medicine, Penitentiary medicine.
2. Related domains: medical law and ethics, ethnotoxicology, human medicine and human rights, sports medicine.
Since 2005, the MSU is delegated by the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), to represent Switzerland in the "Europe Network" from the " Global Campaign for Violence Prevention " of the Organization World Health Organization ( WHO ).
