International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED) is a UNESCO category 2 centre and the only agency engaged in research and training for rural education under the auspices of UNESCO. International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education is commissioned to initiate and facilitate activities focused on exchange and popularization of experiences for international rural education within the broader framework of Education-for-All (EFA), International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED) undertakes human resource training programs for international rural education, and to serve extensively the UNESCO member countries, especially the global developing countries. Since its establishment, one of the functions of INRULED stipulated by the Memorandum of Agreement between UNESCO and Chinese government is to create a wide network for exchange of academic and technical information in the field of rural education among experts in various countries and to provide convenience for the exchange in the field of rural education among experts in various countries, information databases of institutions, publications, case studies and experts working in the fields of rural education and rural development have been developed based on the activities of INRULED research and training activities. 98 workshops, seminars or symposiums have been organized by International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education. Among them, 8 workshops focused on rural development in Africa, and the rest were in Asia and the Pacific region. More than 1300 participants from 85 countries and 18 international organizations, NGOs and IGOs have attended these programmes. In 2009 International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education conducted a programme on Study Tour of African Teacher Education and Policy Personnel to China in November 2009 on Training Trip for Womens and Girls Empowerment in Rural Areas and in 2008 on China -Africa Training of Trainers Workshop on Teacher Education was organized in Shanghai and Suzhou, China. INRULED conducted 67 research projects covering themes on Education for All, literacy and post-literacy education, rural adult and vocational education, women and girls education, education for sustainable development , use of ICT for rural education, rural human resources development and so on.
