Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), is a multi-campus university, named after great patriotic leader Jenab Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir. It was established in the year 1982 through an Act of the J&K Assembly, with its headquarter at Shalimar, Srinagar. In the year1998-99, the University was renamed as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir) and its territorial jurisdiction redefined to Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
The Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) erstwhile Government Agriculture College, Wadura Sopore, and Kashmir was established in the year 1960. The Faculty has produced approximately 4000 graduates from its inception till date. It is worth mentioning that most of the officers of Agriculture development and allied departments are the pass outs of this faculty. The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry came into existence, as a constituent unit of the University in 1984 with a mandate of professional teaching and extension in Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Jammu and Kashmir is endowed with vast and varied fishery resources, which offer immense potential for augmenting fish production for domestic consumption as well as for exports for improving the social well-being of the fisher-folk, for enhancing the nutritional status of the population and for providing self-employment opportunities to the rural population thereby accelerating rural development.
Temperate sericulture Research Institute started as Division of Sericulture of the University in 1982 which was upgraded to the current status in 2011. The institute is spread over an area of 20 ha. The institute has been carrying out diverse activities through a number of sections. Resident instruction programme in the institute started with the institution of Masters in Sericulture in 1999. B.Sc. (Sericulture) has been instituted in 2006 and four batches have passed out since.
For all Bacheloes Degree Programmes, A candidate seeking admission should be a permanent resident of J&K state or of J&K state origin with minimum age of 17 years as on 31-12-2016; should have passed 10+2/Higher Secondary Part-II or equivalent examination from a recognized statutory Board/University with English, Physics, Chemistry & Biology (& Mathematics B. Tech. Agri. Engineering) and having aggregate marks not less than 50% for OM and 40% for reserved category candidates. For all Master Degree Programmes, a candidate must possess Bachelor’s degree in the concerned/ relevant field with OGPA of not less than 2.80 on 4 scales or 6.00 on 10 scales or 60% aggregate marks in annual traditional system. Only those candidates who have graduated from institutions/Universities recognized by ICAR/VCI/UGC are eligible to apply.
