Sir Padampat Singhania University (SPSU) has been ranked 95th in India and is one of the youngest Institution to be so ranked. On the parameter of “Teaching Learning Resources”, SPSU has been ranked 38th in India. SPSU is ranked 6th in Rajasthan and ranks 19th among all private universities in the country. In Rajasthan, the two other higher ranked private universities were established over 70 years ago. It was nearly a half century ago, Late Sir Padampat Singhania, the visionary founder of JK organisation dreamt of an empowered India populace, through whom India would take its place as an equal in the comity of nations. According to him, empowerment pre-supposes education and knowledge. That then became the cornerstone of the organisations philosophy for discharging its social responsibility. The JK cement Nimbahera Foundation (JKCNF) was born. Overtime, the involvement with education became stronger and deeper. Today, two decades later, it is associated with twelve educational institutions imparting education to nearly 14000 students at various levels of the learning curve. The JK university Nimbahera foundation envisioned the establishment of a university in Rajasthan benchmarked to international educational institutions. The foundation constituted a think tank of eminent persons from the industry, science and technology academia to brain storm the directions of the development of the proposed university and prepare its blue print. The university is committed to academic excellence, entreneurial spirit, diversity, vibrancy and creativity. The primary objectives of the university are to educate and prepare men and women for leadership in industry, government and educational institutions; to advance the knowledge base of engineering professions; and to influence the future directions of engineering and technology education and practise. Education programmes of the university emphasize understanding of principles; faculty with experimental, computational and analytical methods; development of the skill in the creative processes of engineering such as design; and the development of a self-confidence and versatility of mind that prepare the individual for a lifetime of learning and professional growth. By creating, developing, organizing and managing complex technologies and products, engineers and technologists play a crucial role in contributing to the betterment of humanity and in shaping our world. Seeking solutions to the most difficult challenges of our day in the context of physical, economical, political, legal and cultural realities makes engineering and technology a tremendously exciting endeavour. In a world increasingly influenced by science and technological innovation, engineers can provide important leadership to the society. The university has been established with the passing of sir padampat Singhania University, Udaipur act 2008, by the legislative assembly of the state of rajasthan. Sir padampat singhania university is approved by UGC vide notification and is empowered to award degree as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC act, 1956. The UGC conducted the mandatory inspection of SPSU in 16th-17th august 2013. Subsequent to the inspection, UGC recognized and approved SPSU u/s 2f of the UGC act 1956 on 17th October 2014 at the 50th meeting of UGC commission. The government of Rajasthan conducted an interactive session ‘Rajasthan development dialogue’ on 8th july 2016 at sir padampat singhania university, Udaipur. Senior government officials briefed the students about the various flagship schemes undertaken by the state government such as Rajasthan skill livelihood development cooperation (RSLDC). Quality research gets high encouragement in the university with active involvement of faculty members and students. Some faculty members have received research grants and some more are in the pipeline. Researchers from this university have live research collaborations with many co-researchers from other universities of repute in India and abroad. The university has always encouraged and provided financial and administrative support for attending conferences and workshops. These initiatives have resulted in quality publications in journals of repute. Four patents have also been filed in the past year as outcome of this research.
