Eawag is the water research institute of the ETH Domain. The four independent research institutes Empa, PSI, WSL and Eawag belong to the ETH Zurich and ETH Lausanne (EPFL) colleges. Eawag deals with concepts and technologies for a sustainable use of the water and water resources - nationally anchored and internationally networked. In collaboration with universities, other research institutions, public authorities, industry and non-governmental organizations, Eawag contributes to reconciling ecological, economic and social interests in the waters. It thus takes a bridge function between science and practice. The Research Departments Eawag devoted to three main research areas: Water for the well-being of man, Water for the functioning of ecosystems, and Strategies for conflicts around water Eawag is a research institute in the ETH domain. This includes the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne as well as the four research institutions PSI, WSL, Empa and Eawag. The ETH Domain is managed by the ETH Board and is assigned to the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research (WBF). Eawag has 12 research departments. The support departments support them. Eawag commissions: Analytical Commission of Eawag (Anakom). Chemical analysis is concerned with the identification and quantification of chemical substances. Due to the special needs and projects within the research areas, this is distributed at various research departments at Eawag. Anakom advises management on the alignment of analytics at Eawag and coordinates activities in this area. Research Commission. The Joint Research Commission of Eawag and the WSL examines the applications for project funding to the Swiss National Science Foundation. Since 1 January 2015, Eawag has been compiling its annual accounts according to the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).   The annual report provides a broad overview of ongoing Eawag projects. It is published in German and English, since 2013 also in French. The solution-oriented research and the exchange with the practitioners of the water sector are two main concerns of Eawag.
