Figure 8: Clathrin-Dependent Internalization of GPCRs. The proposed model for GPCR internalization is based on the β2-adrenoceptor receptor. Upon agonist binding, GPCRs are phosphorylated by GRKs, this leads to the recruitment of arrestin and subsequent ARF6 activation. The activation of ARF6 results in the promotion of clathrin, AP-2 and Src to form clathrin-coated pits. Finally, dynamin causes the ‘pinching off’ of vesicles from the plasma membrane into the cytosol. |
