Table 1: Number of hybrid cell lines obtained with the different fusion and RH panel characteristics. The number of fusions indicated in this table includes only the productive fusions. There were several attempted fusion before appropriate experimental conditions were found. As it was not known whether the oyster HPRT and TK proteins complement the hamster mutant, we used the two systems in parallel. The working oyster panel was then constituted of 48 HPRT and 46 TK hybrid cell lines. This strategy of using both TK- and HPRT-rescued clones may represent an advantage over using one gene only: markers located close to the TK or HPRT receptor gene cannot be mapped because they are present in all or nearly all the hybrid cells rescued with the corresponding gene. |
