Biography

I am the Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology & Chief of Surgical Services for the UNM Cancer Center. My recruitment to UNM in 2009 was to build an academic Division of Surgical Oncology within our NCI Designated Cancer Center. As a general surgical oncologist, my clinical practice covers many tumor types, but my clinical and academic area of focus is colorectal cancer. My basic science laboratory focuses on the signal transduction pathways relevant in colorectal cancer metastases. We have partnered with our Department of Health to increase education and screening capacity for colorectal cancers in the state of New Mexico. We continue to participate with our Community partners to increase awareness of cancer screening, prevention and treatment for our unique populations.
