Biography

After high school (Classical Lyceum) she obtained an Honour's degree (Biology) at La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy (1977) and was a fellow in the Laboratory of Cell Biology, CNR, Rome, headed by the Nobel laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini. Associate Scientist at Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (1980-81). Post-doctoral course “Immunology”, Institute for Medical Research, Camden, New Jersey,USA. From 1982 to 2000 Assistant Professor and from 2001-to 2014 Associate Professor (Chair of Human Anatomy), School of Medicine, Sapienza University, Rome. She also obtained a medical degree and a specialization in general pathology at La Sapienza University of Rome.
She is a member of the technical pedagogical board of the School of Medicine, a member of the Doctoral School in “Innovative Technologies in Translational Medicine”, a member of the Executive board of Fulbright Italian Association, Coordinator of the Erasmus Program with Université d'Artois, France and Athens University, Greece, Gothenborg University, Sweden; Vice-President of Radiology graduate school and Director of the II level Master: “Stress, sport, nutrition: new diagnostic and therapeutic advances for wellness, fitness, prevention and rehabilitation”.
Supervisor of the Laboratory of Neuromorphology, section "Advanced Diagnostics" of the Department of Medico-Surgical Sciences and Biotechnologies, Sapienza University, Rome (2010-14).
Her current lines of research include the study of inflammatory mediators in the progression of chronic inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis and Alzheimer's disease with the aim to identify the hierarchical cytokines involved in the amplification of the disease as a possible target for the development of specific biologics therapeutics. Furthermore her research deals with the role of nutritional factors in chronic inflammatory diseases and the role of stress hormones in chronic inflammatory diseases.
She is the Associate-editor of the Journal of Alzheimer disease Editor for www.brainimmune.com, and reviewer for Molecular Cell Research, Journal of Neuroscience Research, Neuroscience , Journal of Neural Transmission and Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications She is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, European Atherosclerosis, Society International Society of Neuroimmunomodulation. She is author than more than 150 articles on national and international journals.

Research Interest
