Natalizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody against the cell adhesion molecule α4-integrin. Management of natalizumab associated progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is challenging treatment modality. Natalizumab is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease. It is designed to hamper movement of potentially damaging immune cells from the bloodstream, across the “blood-brain barrier” into the brain and spinal cord.
