T

he number of people with dementia is growing worldwide. Early and accurate diagnosis is important. Growth will occur

particularly in developing countries which often do not have the resources (staff, financial, equipment) to do an extensive

dementia assessment. In this talk, we will explore the different methods used to do a stepwise low cost and cross culturally

applicable screening for dementia. Data fromChina, India, Indonesia, Australia, UK and Singapore are presented. We will show

different methods including paper and pencil tasks and computerized assessments which have high validity and reliability.

These tests were originally developed at Oxford University and are now used as a gold standard in several settings.
