Abstract:

Background: Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans, have a case fatality rate of up to 90%, occur primarily in remote villages in Central and West Africa, near tropical rain forests. Objectives: To study the incidence and mortality rates of EVD outbreak. To identify main threatens and opportunities. Methodology: MEDLINE and CINAHL electronic databases were searched using a pre-defined search strategy. Additional references from the bibliographies of retrieved articles were also reviewed and experts in the area were contacted Results: The chronological reporting of EVD cases and mortalities, it revealed that the diseases reported first time on 1976 with high incidence rate mortalities in Sudan and Congo, the table shows as well that frequent EVD outbreaks took place at different African countries in the years 2000, 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2012. the current diseases outbreak(2014) showed that almost 1975 cases has been reported in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone out of which 1069 case were died according to the last WHO updating on 11th of august. Conclusion: EVD starting to be beyond control in the focus areas in Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone), and new trend has just start to has potential international dissemination and threatens.

He is Qualified with PhD family and community medicine, Higher diploma respiratory Diseases Edge hills University UK, fellowship of institute for international education/New York, Master course of Epidemiology and biostatistics/American University of Beirut, training certificates on Public Health (north Carolina, Johan Hopkins and Harvard). He has supervised more than 20 PhD theses, 10 MSc Thesis, achieved about 50 research work and contribute to CDC textbook on Ethics in Public Health
