Abstract:

A field experiment on groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) consisted of 10 treatments laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) and replicated thrice was conducted during kharif season 2011 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, SHIATS, Allahabad. The treatments consisted of mechanical and chemical weed control methods alone and in combinations. Pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin, Oxyfluorfen and post-emergence application of Imazethapyr alone or in combination with 1 hoeing effectively controlled the weed population and reduced the weed dry weight compared with unweeded control. Among the treatments tried, pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin 30 EC @1 kg ha-1 + 1 hoeing at 45 DAS had a pronounced effect on control of weeds, reduced the weed dry matter and led to higher yield attributes, number of branches, maximum plant dry weight, pod yield, seed yield, weed control efficiency, lower weed index and higher benefit: cost ratio compared to rest of the treatments.
