There has been an enormous amount of research being presented in the area of metagenomics analyses with the advent and progress of next generation sequencing. The same has provided us with substantial information about the involvement of gut microflora in various disease states. A wide literature describes the role of gut microflora in general health and disease. The gut microflora has been described as an important organ of the body. Subsequent to this, the work tries to find out the links between infection and its impact on gut microflora and vice-versa. The work in this area has been initiated and the results are awaited. The lecture may describe the findings of other workers to support the hypothesis and also a few of the results which may be available at the time of presentation.
