Abstract:

Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common disease and the leading cause of death among children worldwide. However, there seems to be large diversity among physicians when it comes to diagnosis, investigation and treatment of the condition, despite a recent clinical practice guideline that was released in August 2011 by the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA guideline). This is a focused population survey consists of 15 questions to test the knowledge, practices and attitudes of several aspects related to the management of CAP. The survey will target physicians from the following specialties: Paediatrics, family medicine and emergency medicine, both in the private and governmental sector. The surveyed physicians will be from all levels of experience from residents to consultant. We are aiming to identify gaps in the knowledge of this very important clinical practice guideline. Those gaps can later be the focus of future CMEs among other measures to improve knowledge and practices. The results of this study will be shared in details during the conference.
