Biography

Dr. Francisco Gimenez Sanchez, has developed his professional career as a specialist in pediatrics in both the field of primary and hospital care. Between 1998 and 2000 he made his training as a Fellow in Epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, Atlanta, USA), which participated in several research projects related to infectious diseases and surveillance Epidemiological. He then worked as a consultant to the Division of Vaccines of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO-WHO) in Washington being destined to Bolivia, acting as International Advisor to the Expanded Program on Immunization and actively participating in the elimination of measles from the Americas. At present it realizes his career in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Hospital in Almería Torrecárdenas and participates as principal investigator in several related infectious diseases and clinical trials of new vaccines studies. In 2005 he founded the Balmis Vaccine Institute, an organization dedicated to the promotion of teaching, research and international cooperation in the field of vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases and presiding at this time. Since October 2012 he is President of the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health.
