Dr. Paola Navarrete is a researcher in the Microbiology and Probiotics Laboratory of the Instituto de Nutrición y Tecnología de los Alimentos (INTA), University of Chile. Dr. Navarrete received her Ph.D in 2008 from the University of Chile, and stayed at the Biotechnology Laboratory of INTA to perform post-doctoral research between 2009 and 2011. Dr. Navarrete research has focused on the study of the gut microbiota of fish with commercial interest for Chile (salmonids, Seriola lalandi and Cilus gilberti), using culture and molecular approaches. She is now studying the diversity of yeast in the gut microbiota of these fish and exploring the zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a fish model to evaluate the role of yeast in nutrition and health of the fish.
