The Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) is a system of nutrition recommendations from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies (United States). The Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) are a comprehensive set of nutrient reference values for healthy populations that can be used for assessing and planning diets. DRIs have been published since 1997 and replace previously published Recommended Nutrient Intakes (RNIs). They are established by Canadian and American scientists through a review process overseen by the U.S. National Academies, which is an independent, nongovernmental body. The DRIs reflect the current state of scientific knowledge with respect to nutrient requirements and are published as a series of reports by the U.S. National Academies.
