Haemolytic Anaemia

Hemolytic anemia occurs when the bone marrow is unable to replace the red blood cells that are being destroyed. Hemolytic anemia is a type of anemia. Hemolytic anemia is caused by high rates of red blood cell destruction i.e. erythrocytic loss which results in improper bone marrow activity. Initial stages of hemolysis are asymptomatic but in final stage s of hemolysis causes angina and cardiopulmonary diseases sometimes leads to death.

There are two forms of hemolytic anemia: extrinsic and intrinsic. Diagnosis includes tests like Absolute reticulocyte count, Coomb test, direct, Platelet count, etc. Treatment depends on the type and cause of the hemolytic anemia and in emergencies blood transfusion is done and other Treatment options for hemolytic anemia include intravenous immune globulin, corticosteroid medication and severe and rarer cases surgery is performed.
