Gliomas are brain tumors arising from glial cells. 80% of gliomas are malignant in nature. Astrocytoma’s, Oligodendroglia’s, and Ependymomas are the three different types of gliomas.
Epidemiology and Treatment
Gliomas are characterized by headache, nausea, vomiting, speech difficulty, memory disturbance, seizures, and vision problems. Treatment usually includes surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Temozolamide is an effective drug used in chemotherapy for high grade tumors.
According to recent studies In Australia 30% of cancer cases represent gliobalstoma multiforme, 24% meningioma , 13% for pituitary tumors and 6% for remaining tumors.
