    Causes and Statistics

The exact causes of gliomas are not known. Hereditary genetic disorders such as neurofibromatoses (type 1 and type 2) and tuberous sclerosis complex are known to predispose to their development. Different oncogenes can cooperate in the development of gliomas.Gliomas in Canada account for about 45% of cancers. 25% of survival rate is accounted for brain cancer patients according to recent statistical report 2004-2010.
