Membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) is a specific type of GN. MGN develops when inflammation of structures in the kidney cause problems with kidney function. The antigens associated with primary membranous nephropathy are not known. Membranous nephropathy is a major cause of nephrotic syndrome of non-diabetic origin in adults.

  • Membranous nephropathy

    Disease pathophysiology:

They may be located in the subepithelial space. Antigen-antibody complexes can develop by the production of immune complexes in situ or by deposition. In the experimental Heymann nephritis model of membranous nephropathy, the intrinsic antigen is a glycoprotein, megalin, synthesized by the glomerular visceral epithelial cells.

  • Membranous nephropathy

    Disease statistics:

It is stated that membranous nephropathy has an incidence of approximately 1 case per 100,000 persons per year. Patients are occasionally prescribed blood thinners to prevent these complications. Screening for age-appropriate malignancies is warranted, if not already done.

  • Membranous nephropathy

    Disease treatment:

A low-salt diet may help with swelling in the hands and legs. Water pills or diuretics may also help with this problem. Low-protein diets may be helpful. A moderate-protein diet (1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day) may be suggested. Vitamin D may need to be replaced if nephrotic syndrome is chronic and does not respond to therapy. This disease increases the risk for blood clots in the lungs and legs.

  • Membranous nephropathy

    Major research on disease:

Clinical research includes the following projects: Drug dosing in patients with renal disease, Dialysis outcomes Efficacy of Eryhtropoetin Stimulating agents.Transplantation: outcomes and barriers Interventional Nephrology including comparing efficacy of stents and many more.
