Ingrown toenails are a common condition in which the corner or side of a toenail grows into the soft flesh.

pain, redness, swelling and, sometimes, an infection

Soak the foot in warm water 3 to 4 times a day if possible. After soaking, keep the toe dry, Gently massage over the inflamed skin, Place a small piece of cotton or dental floss under the nail. Wet the cotton with water or antiseptic.

Surgical treatment for ingrown nails are done by foot and ankle specialists and podiatrists. This is typically an in-office procedure requiring local anesthesia and specialty surgical instruments. The surgical approach is a partial nail avulsion of the medial and lateral nail plate known as a "partial wedge resection".If the ingrown toenail recurs despite this treatment, destruction of the sides of the nail with chemicals or excision is done known as a matrixcestomy.Antibiotics may be used post procedure but antibiotics are not recommended as they may delay healing.
