Pathophysiology
Congenital heart defects in children refers to a child was born with a problem in the structure of his or her heart. Some congenital heart defects in children are simple and don't need treatment, such as a small hole between heart chambers that closes on its own and other are more complex and require several surgeries performed over a period of several years.
Disease Treatment
Treatment with a catheter is much easier for the child to go through than surgery. Instead of opening the body with an incision as in surgery, the doctor makes a small cut in the skin and inserts a catheter (a thin tube) into the body through an artery or vein.
Statistics:
The incidence of CHD in different studies varies from about 4/1,000 to 50/1,000 live births. The relative frequency of different major forms of CHD also differs greatly from study to study. In addition, another 20/1,000 live births have bicuspid aortic valves, isolated anomalous lobar pulmonary veins or a silent patent ductus arteriosus.
Major Research
The major research work is for treating the Congenital heart defects in children is by tracking Birth defects tracking systems identify babies born with birth defects, including CHDs, and collect information to learn more about these conditions. Many states have birth defects tracking systems, which are vital to help us find out where, and when birth defects occur and who they affect.
