It is one of the known infections which are sexually transmitted. It mainly affects men and women. Genital herpes is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Virus is transmitted through sexual contact. After post infection the virus is inactive in body and can activate numerous times in body.
Symptoms and Treatment
Its symptoms are pain, itching and sores in the genital area. The time, when the symptoms are visible, HSV type 1 mostly affect the lips causing sores known as fever blisters or cold sores, but it also can infect the genital area and produce sores there. There are no specific treatments for genital herpes however medications can be preferred to minimize the risk of infection.
In Poland, Overall ubiquity of type specific HSV1 and HSV2 serum antibodies was 90.4% and 9.3%, respectively.The prevalence was higher in women (9.7%) than men (8.8%) and increased with age from 4% in 15–24 year olds to 12% in those aged between 50–65 years.
