Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia. Indonesia was the only Asian member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) outside of the Middle East until 2008. Currently Indonesia is a net oil importer. According to Asia Wealth Report, Indonesia has the highest growth rate of high-net-worth individuals. Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world.
Geography of the country:
Indonesia is an archipelagic island country in South East Asia and it is in between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Indonesia has 13,466 islands. Five main islands of Indonesia are Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi, and New Guinea and two major archipelagos are Nusa Tenggara and the Maluku Islands. Indonesia is located on the edges of the Pacific, Eurasian, and Australian tectonic plates due to which numerous volcanoes and frequent earthquakes are coming in Indonesia.
Status of economy, research and development:
It is the sixteenth largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and is the eighth largest in terms of GDP (PPP). Rice and electricity plays a significant role in Indonesia market economy. In Indonesia economy both the private sector and government play a significant role that’s why it is known as mixed economy. There are 50 million small businesses in Indonesia with online usage growth of 48% in 2010. Indonesia’s research and development revenue grows by 15% driven by the rising investment in research and development activities and government support.

The premise of Social Science and Power in Indonesia is that the role and development of social sciences in Indonesia over the past fifty years are inextricably related to the shifting requirements of power. Numerous social and political sciences journals are published from Indonsia with good reputation. Several leading Institution in the country including Indonesian Academy of Sciences, Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Padjadjaran, Diponegoro University others are spearheading the Social sciences research.
