Acute Long Term Hospital Association (ALTHA)

The Acute Long Term Hospital Association (ALTHA) is based in Washington DC is a trade association which represents Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospitals. It strives to protect patient access to the unique care of its hospitals, and also serves as an educational resource for executives and clinicians who serve member facilities. ALTHA benefits its hospital members by collecting and allocating best practices. The organization represents over three hundred LTAC hospitals including Kindred Healthcare, HealthSouth, LifeCare Hospitals, and many others. In 2013, ALTHA members began to focus their Washington advocacy efforts at the American Hospital Association and ALTHA ceased active operations. In January 2013, former ALTHA CEO Bill Walters joined Select Medical Corporation and now runs their Washington office and government affairs department. Jason Healy, former general counsel to ALTHA, continues to practice law and represents many of the nation's leading post-acute providers. ALTHA is the Washington-based trade association of Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospitals, defining three-quarters of this healthcare provider community. ALTHA’s primary mission is to protect patient access to the unique care our hospitals provide. ALTHA works to continuously improve the quality of care by sharing and improving best practices among its hospital members. Phillip B. Douglas serves as board President of the Acute Long Term Hospital Association, and LifeCare National Medical Director T. Brian Callister, M.D., is the immediate past chairman of the ALTHA Clinical Policy Committee. Thomas Buckingham serves on the board of directors for the Acute Long-Term Hospital Association in Washington, D.C., USA.
